About the Center for Geometry, Data and Learning

Founded in 2024 by Kevin R. Vixie, after a variety of experiments in research community building at WSU in Pullam WA, the Center for Geometry, Data and Learning (CGDL) focuses on technical challenges in and around the intersections of geometry (interpreted broadly), data (mostly from the physical sciences) and Learning (with a significant bent towards statistical learning theory). These areas intersect each other and a whole host of real problems, allowing us to do research from a very grounded, complex systems point of view.

The iSciMath project (now a supporting thread of this new center) aims to create a sort of updated, reimagined hybrid industry-academic Bell Labs like environment for integrated, interdisciplinary research and education. Inspired by the past experiences of Vixie and Forbes at places like Los Alamos, Science 1 at UBC, MIT, and FinTech, iSciMath opens the door to the deeper integration of research and education at the disciplinary interfaces.

The CGDL will be paralleled by, and cooperative with, both a forthcoming Institute for Quantum at WSU - iQ@WSU (to be led by Michael M. Forbes) and a soon to be launched center for Astrophysical Data at WSU (to be led by Sukanta Bose).

For more information on any of the professors or student scholars, click on the pictures on those pages to get to their webpages. Eventually, the research and exposition page will collect papers, articles, podcasts, and lectures that will enable visitors to this website to get a deeper understanding of what we are doing and what it is like to work in this group.

If you are a graduate student interested in working with us, feel free to contact any of the members with questions.
